Agate mortars with an agate pestle, 80 mm bowl
Agate is a variety of quartz widely used in the manufacture of mortars for the laboratory. A material of extreme hardness, 7 on the Mohs scale, it provides great resistance to abrasion, making it ideal for crushing and mixing substances.
Its high density, 2.6 g/cm³, and low porosity ensures that its use in sample handling minimizes sample loss and reduces the likelihood of contamination between samples.
Agate has a high resistance to chemical agents, such as acids, bases or organic solvents, except for hydrofluoric acid or aqua regia. Good compressive strength, 110 Kg/mm².
Breaking strength 210 Kg/mm².
